Free From 45 Years In Prison, Former President Honduras: Mr. Trump, You Changed My Life
JAKARTA - Former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hern Marijudez expressed his gratitude to US President Donald Trump for his pardon in his first statement since his release from US prison.
Hern Lamez served a prison sentence of one year out of 45 years for helping drug dealers transport hundreds of tons of cocaine to the US in exchange for bribes that sparked his political revival.
Trump surprised the people of Honduras last Friday by announcing his intention to pardon Hernhudez two days before the national general election, arguing the former leader had been a victim of unfair and politically motivated prosecution.
"I said it when I left the house, I said it when I was wrongly punished, and I will say it again now after I am free. I am innocent," wrote Hern Marijudez via X on Wednesday, December 3 local time.
"You have changed my life, sir, and I will never forget about it," he said.
Trump told reporters on the Air Force One plane on Sunday that the people of Honduras had asked him to pardon Hern Mariadez.
"They (US prosecutors) basically said he was a drug dealer because he is the president of this country. And they said it was the fabrication of the Biden administration," Trump said.
"And I saw the facts and I agree with that," he continued.
Hern Badminton was released on Monday from the US Correctional Institutionbolton in West Virginia. His wife, Ana Garc aired, confirmed his release on Tuesday morning.
Days before Honduras held elections, Trump also supported a presidential candidate from the conservative National Party led by Hern Badminton.
As vote count continued on Wednesday, candidates from Nasry Asfura's National Party trailed Salvador Nasralla from the conservative Liberal Party with a difference of less than 1% votes counted.
