Minister Of Agriculture Says Indonesia Will Announce Food Self-Sufficiency December 31, 2025
JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that Indonesia is ready to announce food self-sufficiency for strategic commodities such as rice and corn on December 31, 2025 at 12.00 WIB according to national targets.
Amran emphasized that the achievement of self-sufficiency can be realized because national production increases and food distribution is more stable, so that Indonesia's food security is in a strong and well-maintained position.
"God willing, we pray, we can announce self-sufficiency later. On December 31 at 12.00 we announce that Indonesia is self-sufficient," said Minister of Agriculture Amran quoting Antara.
He explained that the government's rice reserves (CBP) nationally currently reach 3.8 million tons, the highest amount in history, and is estimated to remain stable until the end of the year in the range of 3.7 million tons. The CBP is located in all warehouses of Perum Bulog.
He added that the high stock achievement was an important achievement because it showed the consistency of farmer productivity which continued to increase and reflected the success of the national food strategy program.
According to him, what makes this achievement even more important is the fact that all rice in Bulog's warehouse is the result of the production of Indonesian farmers, without dependence on imports to strengthen national reserves.
"What is interesting is that the rice in the warehouse is the result of the production of Indonesian farmers," said Amran.
Previously, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) stated that the potential for rice production from January to December 2025 reached 34.79 million tons, an increase of 4.17 million tons, an increase of 13.6 percent compared to 2024 (YoY).
"The increase in the potential for rice production from January to December 2025 was mainly contributed by an increase in subround I, namely in the January to April 2025 period which increased by 26.54 percent," said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Pudji Ismartini.
