Members Of The House Of Representatives Call East Kalimantan Potentially Flooded Like Sumatra: There Are 1,700 Mining Holes That Have Not Been Reclamationd

Member of Commission XII DPR RI, Syafruddin, said that East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim) is now in a condition prone to ecological disasters, such as floods and landslides that occur in Aceh-Sumatra. The reason is, there are thousands of additional holes that have been reclamationd.

"Kaltim is very vulnerable, such as in Aceh and Sumatra. Why? Because there are around 1,700 mining holes that have not been reclamationd," said Syafruddin to reporters, Thursday, December 4.

Syafruddin is also concerned because until now, 51 children have died as a result of falling into the former mine holes that have been left neglected. According to him, this condition shows the weak supervision and responsibility of mining companies operating in the area.

There are many mining companies in East Kalimantan. They polluting forests, polluting rivers and water sources, said the PKB legislator from the East Kalimantan electoral district.

Syafruddin then asked the government and related institutions to tighten the licensing process for Analysis on Environmental Impact (AMDAL). Because he sees the situation in East Kalimantan as increasingly worrying.

He stressed that permits should only be given to companies that really have a strong commitment to environmental conservation.

"If there are companies that apply for Amdal permits, please tighten them up. Do not let any more companies damage the environment and threaten public safety," said Syafruddin.

Syafruddin hopes that the government's decisive steps can prevent increased environmental damage. "And ensure the safety of the people of East Kalimantan in the future," he concluded.
