Liverpool Rescued By Sunderland's Suicide Goal
JAKARTA - Liverpool were unable to score and almost lost at home to Sunderland in the English Premier League match. Nordi Mukiele's own goal thwarted Sunderland's victory and the match against Liverpool at Anfield Stadium, Thursday, December 4, 2025 in the morning WIB ended in a 1-1 draw.
Liverpool failed to maintain consistency and again reaped disappointing results while playing in front of their own supporters. After having time to rise and perform optimally when beating West Ham United 2-0, Liverpool actually hopes to take advantage of the momentum at Anfield.
It's just that Sunderland is not an easy opponent despite his promotional team status. Even The Black Cats were able to put up a tight fight and had taken the lead first.
When Sunderland almost broke a record of never winning in 42 years at Anfield, Liverpool finally equalized. Ironically it was Mukiele's own goal that failed his team to beat the Reds at home.
The result made Liverpool only move up a few strips. They are ranked eighth with 22. Same as Brighton and Hove Albion, but Liverpool still lose the goal difference. This made Brighton number seven.
Meanwhile, Sunderland, who has played a draw five times, is in a better position than Liverpool. Regis Le Bris' team is in sixth place with 23.
Mohamed Salah Reserved
In that match, Liverpool appeared with slightly different squads. The forward Mohamed Salah was benchmarked and his position was replaced by Florian Wirtz.
Manager Arne Slot has again placed Premier League most expensive player Alexander Isak as the first choice for a centre forward position. Thus Hugo Ekitike had to sit on the bench.
However, Isak, who managed to score his first goal for Liverpool in the weekend, still has not shown consistency. The former Newcastle United striker again failed to break into the opponent's goal even though he was given the opportunity until 86 minutes before being replaced by Federico Chiesa.
Sunderland actually played effectively, making the host's defense troublesome. Their attack had threatened Liverpool's goal. Sunderland's best chance was obtained by Trai Hume. However, his shot was saved by goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Liverpool itself began to threaten towards the end of the first half. Dominik Szoboszlai scored a goal. However, his shot was saved by goalkeeper Robin Roefs. Furthermore, Alexis Mac Allister's header still hit the post. The score remained 0-0 when the first half was over.
In the second half, the match went well. Salah's entry, who replaced Cody Gakpo, managed to increase the Pool's attack.
However, they still struggled to penetrate the Sunderland defense which was quite solid. On the other hand, the visitors got another chance through Omar Alderete. But his header hit the post.
After several failures, Sunderland finally broke the deadlock when Talbi broke into Liverpool's goal in the 67th minute.
Goals were created when there was chaos and Ibrahima Konate failed to welcome the ball. His header missed and captain Virgil van Dijk tried to block the ball. But the ball was accepted by striker Enzo Le Fee who gave it to Chemsdine Talbi to be executed past Alisson.
Unfortunately, Sunderland's 1-0 advantage did not last long. In the 81st minute, Liverpool's attack paid off when Wirtz showed individual action past the visitors.
The German national team midfielder then fired a shot into the net that hit Mukiele. As a result, the ball completely turned and slid into the net itself.
