Potential Lightning Rain Occurs In Several Cities On December 4
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned the public to be aware of rain accompanied by lightning in most parts of Indonesia on Thursday, December 4.
BMKG Medayu Bestari forecasters said, starting from Sumatra Island, the weather is predicted to be cloudy for Banda Aceh City, while Medan, Padang, and Tanjung Pinang cities have the potential for light rain.
Still on the island of Sumatra, light rain is forecast in the areas of Jambi, Palembang, and Bandar Lampung.
"Be aware of thunderstorms that can occur in Pekanbaru, Bengkulu, and Pangkal Pinang," said Medayu, quoted by Antara, Thursday morning.
Turning to Java, light rain is forecasted in Serang, Jakarta and Semarang areas, while people in Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya are asked to be aware of rain that can be accompanied by lightning.
Then shifted to Kalimantan Island, light rain is predicted to occur in Pontianak, Palangkaraya, and Samarinda.
"Be aware of thunderstorms that can occur in Tanjung Selor and Banjarmasin," he said.
Moving to the areas of Bali and Nusa Tenggara, the weather is predicted to be thick cloudy for Denpasar and Kupang cities, while Mataram has the potential to rain with light intensity.
Then for Sulawesi Island, the weather is predicted to run away in Kendari, while Gorontalo is predicted to be cloudy.
"The cities of Palu, Makassar, and Manado have the potential for light rain, while Mamuju has the potential to rain with moderate intensity," said Medayu.
Moving to eastern Indonesia, the weather in the cities of Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, and Jayapura is forecasted for light rain. People in the Nabire, Jayawijaya, and Merauke areas are asked to be aware of rain that can be accompanied by lightning.
BMKG reports that by the end of November 2025, around 75.3 percent of the season zone in Indonesia had entered the rainy season.

BMKG also informed that of the total 698 rain zones in the country, 526 of them are now in the rainy phase.
Even so, BMKG noted that no province experienced conditions without rain for more than two months during this period.
