Netflix Denies Stealing P. Diddy's Video, Obtained Legally
JAKARTA - It's Netflix's turn to respond to accusations from P. Diddy, also known as Sean Combs, along with his lawyer, regarding the documentary series Sean Combs: The Reckoning, which airs on the platform. The day before, they accused Netflix of stealing the video featured in the teaser and obtaining it illegally.
In the released teaser, P. Diddy is seen calling someone while in a hotel room. He appears anxiously awaiting a response from the person he contacted.
"The claims made about 'Sean Combs: The Reckoning' are false. This project has no connection or association between Sean Combs and Netflix," a Netflix representative said, as quoted by Variety.
They also revealed that the video included in the series was obtained legally and officially. The video is also not an attack on P. Diddy.
"This video of Combs before his arrest was obtained legally. This is not a form of retribution. Curtis Jackson (50 Cent) is an executive producer, but he has no creative control. No one was paid to participate," they said.
The documentary's director, Alexandria Stapleton, also stated that she obtained all the videos featured in the series through legitimate means.
"We went to great lengths to keep the identity of the person who recorded them secret. One thing about Sean Combs is that he's always recorded himself, and it's been an obsession of his for decades," said Alexandria Stapleton.
"We've also reached out to Sean Combs' legal team for interviews and comments repeatedly, but we haven't heard back," she said.
Previously, Sean Combs's representatives stated that the producer had been keeping videos of himself since he was 19, but Netflix distorted his image and took his statements out of context.
