4 Dogs K-9 Sabhara Baharkam Deployed To Look For Disaster Victims In South Tapanuli
JAKARTA - Satuan K-9 Unit SAR Ditpolsatwa Korps Sabhara Baharkam Polri membantu proses pencarian korban bencana alam di bantaran Sungai Huta Raja, Kecamatan Batang Toru, Tapanuli Selatan, Sumatera Utara (Sumut), pada Selasa 2 Desember.
"The National Police through the K9 Ditpolsatwa Baharkam SAR Unit continues to mobilize their best ability to assist in the search for disaster victims," said Head of the Kepenmas Division of the National Police's Divhumas Kombes Pol. Erdi A. Chaniago in Jakarta, Wednesday, quoted by Antara.
Erdi said, in this operation, the National Police deployed 10 personnel and four K-9 sniffer dogs specializing in cadevers or body searches.
The activity was led by Kompol Kadarman as Pawas with Iptu Erasmus as Head of K-9, as well as handlers and other supporting personnel.
Four K-9 animals named Swallow, Ari, Rubin, and Dasa were used to trace areas suspected of being locations where the victims were buried by material and washed away by river currents.
The search effort was carried out with the Joint SAR team consisting of the National Police, residents, and related elements.
Through a number of sweeps at vulnerable points, K-9 managed to provide important clues. The team found a point that was strongly indicated as the location of the victim's whereabouts.

After excavation by residents around the riverbanks, a female victim was found dead. His identity cannot be recognized because of the condition of his damaged body due to being carried away by the current.
"The presence of K-9 is very helpful to find important points that are difficult to reach manually," said Erdi.
He said that the coordination between the Police, the community and the joint SAR team was going well so that the search process could be carried out quickly and safely.
Search operations in Huta Raja Village will continue to ensure all victims can be found.
"We are committed to fully supporting all humanitarian efforts until the search process is declared complete," he said.
