DKI DPRD Fully Supports Ranperda On Public Information Disclosure

JAKARTA - Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD expressed full support for the initiative launched by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Information Commission (KIP) regarding the preparation of the Draft Regional Regulation (Ranperda) on Public Information Disclosure. This regional regulation is considered crucial to strengthen the basis of transparency and clarify the governance of information services in the capital city.

Chairman of Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Inggad Joshua, assessed that Jakarta really needs a more solid legal basis in regulating information disclosure. According to him, this is important so that transparency practices can run effectively, not just stop at the concept level.

"Very-very supportive of the proposed regulation," Inggad told reporters, Wednesday, December 3.

Inggad emphasized that information disclosure is an important indicator of the progress of a city and should not only be a discourse. "It is impossible for this country to progress if openness is not implemented. Only in the form of theory," said Inggad. He reminded that the process of drafting regional regulations must go through adequate academic studies so that the resulting regulations are really right on target and beneficial. "There must be academic tests. So that it is truly beneficial for the nation," he said.

Previously, the Chairman of the DKI Jakarta KIP, Harry Arra Hutabarat, explained that the Ranperda of Public Information Disclosure is needed to provide legal certainty in the information service process to the public. Arra emphasized that the purpose of this regulation is not to burden local governments. "Ranperda is not something that is scary for the government," said Arra.

On the other hand, Arra said that this rule would actually ensure that access to information is only given to parties who have clear goals and valid applications. "In fact, ensuring that information disclosure is obtained by parties who have applicants who are genuine," he said. Arra also revealed that there was a trend of misuse of requests for information by certain elements, so that the existence of this Perda was considered increasingly urgent. "Because there are some claiming to be individuals and asking for information for personal interests beyond expectations," he added.
