Muzani Meets Prabowo Alludes To Amendments To The 1945 Constitution

JAKARTA - MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani revealed the results of his meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday, December 2.

During the 90-minute meeting, Muzani said he discussed with President Prabowo and discussed amendments to the 1945 Constitution.

"I was briefly mentioned (the amendment to the 1945 Constitution) but there must be a discussion, there must be a little more attention," said Muzani after meeting Prabowo.

However, Muzani said that the amendments to the 1945 Constitution had not been discussed in depth. The discussion is still informal.

"Yes, yes, it was mentioned but not yet in-depth. We discussed it, it was a discussion," he said.

Muzani said that later the MPR would hold a meeting with President Prabowo to discuss officially the amendments to the 1945 Constitution.

"Yes, later the MPR will meet directly with him officially. This is just drinking afternoon tea," he concluded.

As previously reported, Muzani emphasized that the MPR did not close the door to public views or input regarding the possibility of amendments to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia.

He admitted that there were various opinions in the community. Some support the amendment discourse and some think that there is no need for changes.

"Supposing a meeting of possible amendments to the 1945 Constitution also means blocking the chances of new ideas being born regarding the future of the nation and the constitution," Muzani said last Friday.

However, he emphasized that the discussion of constitutional changes should not be carried out in a hurry. According to him, the 1945 Constitution is the basis of the state that must be studied with care.
