Riau Provincial Government Sets Hydrometeorological Disaster Emergency Alert Status
PekanBARU - Riau Provincial Government has set a hydrometeorological disaster emergency alert status as a form of disaster anticipation that occurs in the area, which is currently entering the rainy season.
Head of the Riau Regional Disaster Management and Fire Department (BPBD Damkar), M Edy Afrizal said the hydrometeorological disaster emergency alert status was set from December 1, 2025 to January 31, 2026.
Currently, continued Edy, Riau Province has entered the rainy season and is expected to last until January 2026. To anticipate disasters in districts/cities, the Riau Provincial Government has made a circular regarding the anticipation of hydrometeorological disasters due to extreme weather.
"We have mitigated flood-prone areas and landslides in urban districts throughout Riau. Considering that currently Riau has entered the rainy season, and is expected to last until next January," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 2.
In addition, his party has also conveyed areas that have the potential for hydrometeorological disasters to districts/cities. That way the government can take anticipatory and preparedness steps to reduce the risk or impact of hydrometeorological disasters.
He added that until now there has been an area in Riau that has set a hydrometeorological disaster emergency alert status, namely Rokan Hulu (Rohul) Regency. Meanwhile, for other areas that have started discussing plans for determining similar status, namely Indragiri Hilir (Inhil) and Kampar regencies.
