Profile Of John Herdman Who Also Appears In The Indonesian National Team Coach Candidate
JAKARTA - The market for prospective coaches for the Indonesian national team has received one name again. This time is the figure of a specialist coach for the national team, John Herdman.
This British-blooded coach is even rumored to have undergone an interview session with PSSI, which is currently working in Europe.
This report was first submitted by Sky Sports journalist Dharmash Sheth. He said that PSSI had established communication with John Herdman and Giovanni van Bronckhorst as part of the process of selecting a new coach.
The figure of Herdman is said to be included in the stock exchange for the new coach candidate for the Indonesian national team because of his track record when he brought the Canadian national team to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

Known as a specialist at the national team level, John Herdman was born on July 19, 1975. He made history as the first coach to successfully bring in a national team of women and men from the same country, namely Canada, to appear in the World Cup.
His journey began in 2006 when he led the Canadian Women's National Team. In the 12-year period, Herdman presented two Olympic bronze medals in 2012 and 2016, achievements that then paved the way for him to deal with the Canadian Men's National Team.
In January 2018, Herdman officially took charge of the Canadian Men's National Team. Under his leadership, Canada managed to break into the 2022 World Cup, gaining an increase in position in FIFA rankings and building a competitive football foundation ahead of the 2026 World Cup event where Canada hosted.
Despite being known as a specialist coach for the national team, Herdman also had time to try his luck at the club level. In September 2023, he left the Canadian Football Federation and accepted an offer to coach Toronto FC at Major League Soccer (MLS).
However, his tenure at the club only lasted about a year. Since November 2024, Herdman has officially been without a club.
According to Transfermarkt records, Johan Herdman has an average of 1.98 points per match from 58 matches with the Canadian national team, a figure that strengthens his reputation as a quality coach at the international level.
