Affirming Passenger Safety Is A Priority, Mayor Agustina Will Evaluate Trans Semarang BRT

SEMARANG Semarang Mayor Agustina Wilujeng emphasized that the City Government or Semarang City Government is conducting a thorough evaluation of the operation of the Trans Semarang BRT. This evaluation was carried out after an accident happened some time ago.

Agustina revealed that the third party as the operator had been summoned and received a warning to immediately re-examine.

There are several things that are indications. Number one, the reason seems to be objections to the load. Then the second one, because the engine is not like new. Then the third one is human resources. We evaluate these three things," he said.

According to Agustina, the problem of overpassing is a challenge for the City Government. The increase in the number of fleets is considered not simple because it has a direct impact on increasing Vehicle Operational Costs (BOK), while subsidies for Trans Semarang are quite large.

"We want the number of passengers who increase to be balanced with the number of existing fleets, but the city government will not be able to do that. Today our ability is only like that," he explained.

Agustina emphasized that drivers should not force themselves to carry passengers when the bus has reached its maximum capacity, because it has the potential to cause danger.

In addition to overloading, Agustina highlighted the health condition of the bus which was considered not optimal. The previous year, the process of testing the re-contracted fleet was not carried out thoroughly. This is now a concern of the City Government.

"I called the Head of the Service and the Secretary. I don't want to know, because this has been many times and it is dangerous," he said.

The municipal government now requires the third party to conduct a feasibility test on all fleets that will be contracted again for the next January period. The mayor even asked to see firsthand the testing process.

"It's not me suudzon, that the bus didn't come but the letter came out. I want to see for myself how the bus was tested for real because this is for passenger safety," said Agustina.

Since the new contract will start in January, the Semarang City Government has given operators time to inspect and repair the fleet. He requested that the entire fleet test process be completed before January 1.

If there is anything, for example not passing, please repair it first. Second, do not pass, please repair it. The third is not passed, yes, you must replace this bus. This bus is not allowed to walk, this bus can run. Like that," he said. (ADV)
