Ministry Of Culture Officially Launches Pencak Silat-Based Cultural Gymnastics

BOGOR - The Pencak silat Movement was officially adopted in the Indonesian Cultural Gymnastics launched by the Indonesian Ministry of Culture at the Indonesian Bambu Crafts Foundation (YPBI), Cibinong, Bogor Regency, Monday, December 1. This launch is part of a series of Training of Trainers (ToT) prepared to expand the use of traditional movement-based gymnastics.

Minister of Culture Fadli Zon emphasized that this program is a concrete step in advancing culture as well as implementing the mandate of Article 32 of the 1945 Constitution. He highlighted the presence of cultural elements that have been recognized by UNESCO, including Pencak Silat and angklung.

Pencak silat is the world's Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2019. Every movement brings philosophical values, local wisdom, and ancestral teachings. This should be known to the world," said Fadli.

According to him, pencak silat is not only a cultural heritage, but also beneficial for physical and spiritual health. Through the Indonesian Cultural Gymnasm, the pencak silat movement is rearranged so that it is easy for the community to practice, especially the younger generation.

The movement of pencak silat is healthy for the body and strengthens self-control. I hope this gymnastics can spread throughout Indonesia," he said.

Menbud Fadli added, the development of this gymnastics is in line with the goal of advancing culture, which is to open space for the local culture and creativity industry. He assessed that culture is now the motor of the economy and soft power of various countries.

Cultural observer and Chairman of YPBI Ki Jatnika Nanggamiharja said Indonesia has a variety of arts and movements that can be developed. This dress is designed with the roots of the Cimande Pencak Silat tradition, combining elements of the Panaragan Movement, Indonesian Hijaiyah Gymnastics, and Pasulukan Gymnastics.

Head of BNN RI Komjen Pol Suyudi Ario Seto assessed that this gymnastics can strengthen the physical and mental state of the younger generation, including for the BNN rehabilitation program.

The launch event was attended by the ranks of the central, regional, cultural governments, as well as students. Closing the remarks, Fadli appreciated the organizers. "Continue to activate the cultural community. That way we respect our own culture," said the Minister of Culture.
