Xiaomi Prepares Humanoid Robot To Enter Factory In Five Years

JAKARTA - Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun believes that artificial intelligence will be the main engine that will change the face of the industry in the next five years. In an interview with Beijing Daily, Lei said that the role of AI is now no longer just a supporting tool, but a core foundation that will rebuild the industrial landscape in various sectors.

He gave an example of the Xiaomi electric car factory as an early picture of how AI can multiply efficiency. Examination of large die-cast components that usually take a long time and are prone to errors, is now being carried out by an integrated X-ray system of AI vision models in just two seconds.

The speed is called ten times faster and five times more accurate than that of human workers. For Lei, this is a small shadow of the automation potential when AI becomes the core of the manufacturing process.

Lei estimates that such precision and automation levels can open up new industrial markets worth trillions of yuan. However, he emphasized that no company is capable of building the ecosystem alone. Cross-industrial collaboration is considered the key so that the application of AI can develop widely.

Looking ahead, Lei revealed that Xiaomi will start placing humanoid robots on a large scale in all of its production facilities in five years. These robots will take over various tasks that human workers have been working on at the assembly line.

"And this is just the first step," Lei said. He even estimates that the humanoid robot market for household needs will be much greater, with higher complexity levels and stricter performance demands.

Lei also highlighted China's position in the smart manufacturing map, as well as warning that dependence on cheap labor is an outdated model. It encourages the industrial sector in Beijing to lead the transformation through smart production and seize advantages in the industry's rising race.

Xiaomi itself has started a journey into robotics since introducing the humanoid robot CyberOne in 2022. Since then, the company has continued to expand AI and robotics research as part of a major strategy into the smart electric vehicle market and advanced automation.

Xiaomi's vision is in line with China's national manufacturing improvement agenda, which places AI, robotics, and smart factories as pillars to maintain long-term competitiveness.
