Commission V DPR Asks BMKG To Maximize Weather Modification To Facilitate Logistics Distribution To Evacuation

JAKARTA - Commission V DPR RI Danang Wicaksana Sulistya asked the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to maximize weather modifications to facilitate logistics distribution and evacuation of flood and landslide victims in Aceh and Sumatra.

Danang also asked the Ministry of Public Works (Kemen PU), the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), and the National Search and Rescue Agency (BNPP) to move quickly to deal with disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra which have claimed 442 lives.

"Modification of the weather is very necessary, in order to facilitate the logistics distribution to the evacuation process," Danang told reporters, Monday, December 1.

Danang said that his party is currently continuing to communicate with partners regarding the acceleration of disaster management in the three provinces. "Our communication with the local government regarding the addition of pioneering flights for the evacuation process and facilitating logistics distribution. Thank God, the Minister responded quickly," said Danang.

Danang also appreciated the Ministry of Public Works (Kemen PU) for deploying heavy equipment assistance to open blocked lanes and simplify the evacuation process.

"The most important thing right now is the safety of the community and the smooth running of aid. The state must be present, and today the country has been present through the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Public Works and a number of relevant stakeholders," said the Gerindra legislator.

Danang also reminded again the importance of cross-sectoral coordination to accelerate disaster mitigation. "Hopefully all of our efforts and roles can help accelerate mitigation to ease the burden on affected victims in Sumatra," he concluded.
