BYD Seriously Working On Japanese Market, 6 PHEV Sealion Becomes A New Mainstay

JAKARTA - BYD seems dissatisfied with presenting a number of electric car lines including kei cars in the Japanese automotive market, the proof is that this Chinese manufacturer continues to add a portfolio of its cars and most recently there is a Sealion 6 PHEV.

Based on a report from CNevpost, quoted on Monday, December 1, the model, known as the Sealion 06 DM-i in China, comes in two variants, namely the front wheel drive version and the all-wheel drive version.

The front wheel drive version is priced at 3,982,000 yen or around Rp426 million, while the driving version of all wheels hits 4,488,000 yen or Rp480 million.

The Sealion 6 launched in Japan measures a length of 4,775 mm, a width of 1,890 mm, and a height of 1,670 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,765 mm. This dimension is slightly smaller than the Sealion 06 available in China, which measures a length of 4,810 mm, a width of 1,920 mm, and a height of 1,675 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.

Sealion 06 DM-i is equipped with fifth-generation DM hybrid technology BYD, launched in May 2024, presenting lower fuel consumption.

Referring to the local Chinese market, this model is equipped with a 1.5L turbocharged engine that will be on guard if the battery starts to run low in energy capacity. Interestingly, there is also a V2L energy function.

BYD plans to launch 7-8 models in Japan by 2027, the company said at the time. Currently, BYD offers five models in Japan, including four pure electric vehicles.
