Southeast Aceh Regent Touched, Calls Prabowo's Presence In Flood-affected Areas 'People's Heart Obati'

ACEH TENGGARA Southeast Aceh Regent Muhammad Salim Fakhri expressed his gratitude and emotion for President Prabowo Subianto's visit to his area affected by flash floods.

Speaking from the Bambel Baru Village Refugee Command Post, Monday, December 1, Fakhri said the presence of the Head of State provided moral strength for survivors.

"On behalf of the people and the people of Southeast Aceh, we are grateful. We never imagined that in our hearts a leader of the country, a president, is present in Southeast Aceh Regency," Fakhry said in a speech broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat, quoted via Antara, Monday, December 1.

Fakhry said the flash floods that hit a number of sub-districts left deep wounds for their citizens. However, President Prabowo's presence is said to be able to lift the spirits of the refugees.

"Essentially, your presence as a leader of the country treats the hearts of the people of Southeast Aceh," he said.

In front of the survivors, Fakhry also submitted a request for assistance to the central government so that the recovery process can take place quickly and thoroughly.

President Prabowo, in his brief dialogue, expressed his appreciation for the community's fortitude and emphasized the government's commitment to dealing with disaster impacts as best as possible.

"Thank you, yes. Trust me, we will do our best for the people," said President Prabowo to residents who are dominated by mothers and children.

A warm atmosphere can be seen when the President greets survivors one by one and listens directly to their complaints, from logistical needs to access constraints.

Flash floods have hit Southeast Aceh Regency since Wednesday night, November 26, due to extreme rainfall that has not subsided. This disaster affected 16 sub-districts and more than 101 villages, forcing thousands of residents to flee.

BNPB reported that dozens of houses were washed away, a number of bridges and roads were cut off, as well as communication and electrical access was disrupted. Until now, the joint BPBD team, SAR, TNI-Polri, and volunteers are still searching and evacuating victims, with the number of fatalities in Aceh reaching tens of people and dozens of others still missing.
