Regarding National Disaster Status, MPR Chair: Completely Presidential Authority
JAKARTA - Chairman of the MPR RI Ahmad Muzani, responded to the issue of the government's absence of a national disaster status determination against floods and landslides that occurred in the Aceh-Sumatra region. In fact, the total number of victims who died in the disaster has reached 442 people.
Muzani assessed that the determination of the status of a national disaster is entirely under President Prabowo Subianto's authority, which will be issued through the issuance of a Presidential Decree (Keppres).
According to him, the current post-disaster situation can be overcome by the central government and local governments.
"If you look at the capabilities of the local government, the provincial government is synergizing, I think this is a day that can be handled, but it will all depend on the President's decision. Because the determination of the national disaster is fully under the authority of the President through the President's decision," said Muzani at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, December 1.
Muzani hopes that the government can immediately handle the situation after President Prabowo Subianto directly inspected the disaster sites in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
"But I see that the President is currently in North Sumatra and this hour he is in Aceh, he must see firsthand this situation, hopefully everything can be handled soon," said the former Secretary General of the Gerindra Party.
It is known that President Prabowo Subianto left for the flood-affected area on the island of Sumatra, namely North Tapanuli, North Sumatra, on Monday, December 1. The President took off from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta at around 06.00 WIB to Raja Sisingamangaraja XII Airport, North Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra Province.
