Ioniq 5 Owners Get Repair Bills Of Up To IDR 119 Million Just Because Of Spilled Drinking Water
JAKARTA - A Hyundai owner Ioniq 5 has to pay nearly 12,000 US dollars, or around Rp. 119 million to repair his car. Ironically, the problem with the electric car was due to bottle drinks for 2 US dollars, or Rp. 33 thousand.
The owner of the car named Mike McCromick, said the incident occurred while he was driving on the toll road and had to brake suddenly due to traffic jams. The water bottle in the rear holder cup slides to the floor and the water seeps into the connector at the pressure of the cable under the seat and floor of the car.
A few minutes later, the warning light turned on on on the dashboard and the sein lights suddenly stopped working. Worse yet, when the car arrives home, the engine can't even turn off.
The car was taken to the repair shop, after checking the electric car, a Hyundai dealer told that all the cables under the floor and under the seat had to be replaced. Repairs cost 11,882 US dollars.
The loss was rejected by the guarantee claim because it was considered to have come from external factors, not factory defects. Then the owner tried to file a claim to the insurance company State Farm, but was also rejected.

According to the insurance company, the damage to the offline arose due to the long-term corrosion, not just one water spill. The WFTV Channel 9 report regarding the story highlights the vulnerability of the Ioniq 5 cable series under the seat.
This refers to other owners who were burdened with large bills for a new series of cables after a trader found a series of cables had been peeling. And that's not the only unexpected bill some EV drivers have experienced.
Launching from Carscoops, Monday, December 1, if you want to change your own brake camp on a sporty Ioniq 5N, you need access to software and special tools that can cost thousands of dollars.
Some owners suggest an unofficial, cheaper solution. However, the solution has a built-in risk, including the possibility of your warranty being scorched or causing more expensive problems in case of an error.
This case calls for attention to how sensitive the electronic system is in modern electric cars, especially if vital cables are placed in areas prone to fluid spills. Once a small mistake such as a water bottle spill can turn into a very expensive repair bill.
