An additional three points made Liverpool move up to eighth in the standings with 21 points from 13 matches. Meanwhile, this defeat put West Ham in 17th position with 11 points.

This victory also ended Liverpool's negative trend, which previously lost three consecutive defeats to Manchester City, Nottingham Forest, and PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool appeared aggressive from the start. The first chance came through Alexander Isak's shot, but West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola was able to deny it. Florian Wirtz then gave another threat, but Areola was back on alert.

In the second half, Liverpool finally opened the scoring in the 60th minute. Cody Gakpo's pass was completed by Isak into a goal, as well as the Swedish striker's first goal in the Premier League.

West Ham tried to catch up, but the situation became increasingly difficult after Lucas Paquetmen received a second yellow card in the 84th minute.

Winning the number of players, Liverpool doubled their lead in extra time. Gakpo completed Joe Gomez's cross in the 90+2 minute to make sure the final score was 2-0.
