Turkish Foreign Minister And Iran Value Israel Is A Threat To Regional Security

JAKARTA - Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi agreed to consider Israel a threat to the security of the region.

This was revealed when the two met in Tehran on Sunday, in order to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries to the situation in the region.

In a joint press statement with Foreign Minister Fidan said the two countries viewed Israel as the greatest threat to stability in the Middle East, citing concerns over Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Israel's broader expansionist policies.

"The international community must fulfill its responsibilities," he said, quoted from the Daily Sabah on November 30.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Araghchi said in a press statement that Iran and Turkey had more than just neighbors, calling them "two friends and relatives with many in common."

Regarding regional issues, Foreign Minister Araghchi confirmed the situation in Palestine was the main topic of negotiations. He agrees with Foreign Minister Fidan's statement, "The Zionist regime's attack on Syria and Lebanon shows that the Zionist regime has bigger plans for the region, and the biggest source of threat to Syria is the Zionist regime and its occupation."

Furthermore, Foreign Minister Fidan reiterated Ankara's support for Tehran during ongoing nuclear negotiations and called for the lifting of "unfair" sanctions.

"Iran must solve the problem based on international law," he said.

"Trade and energy are top priorities, and we are back to see today that there is still a lot to be done," Foreign Minister Fidan said, stressing long-term coordination between Turkey and Iran.

He said both parties had agreed to increase border efficiency, increase the number of border gates, and carry out logistics and transportation projects.

"Our countries have a large population, close relations, and high trade, but our trade needs to be more efficient," said Foreign Minister Fidan.

The two main diplomats also discussed efforts to tackle illegal migration, particularly from Afghanistan.

They also agreed to immediately hold a meeting of the 9th Turkey-Iran High-Level Cooperation Council (SCC) at the presidential level.

In turn, Foreign Minister Araghchi also expressed his support for the terror-free Turkish initiative which includes the arms shortage of the PKK terrorist group. It is known, PKK has also been active in Iran through its local wing, PJAK, in the past.
