PalmCo Wins Best Waste Management And Best CEO At ESG Award 2025
JAKARTA - PTPN III (Persero) Plantation Holding through PTPN IV PalmCo subholding won two awards at the 2025 ESG Initiative Awards.
The award consists of Best Waste and Resource Management Initiative and Best CEO for ESG Initiatives which are given to the President Director of PalmCo, Jatmiko K. Santosa.
This event assesses the company's commitment to implementing environmental, social, and governance principles (ESG), including renewable energy innovation and waste management which are considered to have a positive impact.
This Is Not A Matter Of Awards, But A Consistency Of Improvements
PalmCo President Director, Jatmiko K. Santosa, said that this appreciation is an important note for the company, as well as a reminder that sustainability efforts do not stop at the symbol of appreciation.
"For us, this award is not a matter of achievement, but a matter of consistency in improving the way we work and making daily decisions," said Jatmiko.
He emphasized that the implementation of ESG was carried out in stages and involved changes in various lines, from gardens to factories.
"We are trying to ensure that every operational policy has environmental and social impacts that we can account for," he said.
According to Jatmiko, PalmCo is also strengthening the conservation of high-value areas (HCV), maintaining biodiversity, and encouraging a more ethical pattern of supply chain cooperation.
The people around the garden are part of our work ecosystem. Sustainability is unlikely to succeed without involving them," he added.
Palm Oil Waste Management Becomes Renewable Energy
PalmCo won the Best Waste and Resource Management Initiative award thanks to the development of palm waste processing technology into renewable energy. Through the liquid waste treatment plant, PalmCo produces Compressed Bio-Methane Gas (CBG) and electricity from Biogas Power Plants (PLTBg).
In addition, a number of operational units have also implemented biomass co-firing to reduce the use of fossil fuels.
Jatmiko explained that this innovation was carried out to increase efficiency and at the same time reduce emissions.
"We want waste not to stop as waste. If it can become energy, then it is more beneficial for companies and the environment," he explained.
The use of renewable energy in PalmCo now reaches more than 80 percent, while the reduction in carbon emissions is recorded at around 169 thousand tons of CO2 per year. The company also implements a zero disposal policy of non-B3 waste and maintains a zero-deforestation commitment in operational areas.
Strengthening Company Governance
In the Best CEO for ESG Initiatives category, the jury highlighted PalmCo's efforts to strengthen internal governance. The company began to include the ESG indicator in its management performance assessment, as well as improve supervision through anti-fraud systems and channel reporting violations.
"Management links must not stop at the rules. There must be a culture that makes people choose to work properly even though they are not monitored," said Jatmiko.
PalmCo also expands the application of the NDPE principle (No Deforestation, No Peat, No Exploitation) in supply chains, as well as running clean energy roadmaps that include the construction of new CBG facilities, increasing PLTBg and PLTMh capacities, to biodiesel and biopelet development studies.
On the social side, the company is developing a People's Palm Oil Rejuvenation (PSR) program of 60,000 hectares which has an impact on around 120 thousand farmers. This program includes assistance, access to superior seeds, to increased productivity.
"If farmers grow, industry grows, PSR succeeds, it is not impossible that the Palm Oil industry's long-term investment in Indonesia will always be sustainable," said Jatmiko.
PalmCo's Continuation Direction In The Future
PalmCo has a planting area of more than 600,000 hectares with commodities, both palm oil, tea and coffee. With this scale, Jatmiko stated that strengthening the principle of sustainability must be a long-term priority.
"We realize that the palm oil industry is always in the spotlight. Therefore, the only way is to work better, be more transparent, and be more responsible," he stressed.
He added that the award received did not change the company's focus.
"We accept this award as a reminder that our journey is still long. Sustainability is a long-term commitment," concluded Jatmiko.
