Road Collapses And Buried By Landslides, Agam Regency Government Proposes Evacuation Of Victims By Air

JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Agam Regency, West Sumatra proposed to the provincial government to distribute aid and evacuate victims by air or use helicopters in Malalak District because the roads collapsed and were buried by landslides.

"We have conveyed this proposal to the Governor of West Sumatra Mahyeldi during his visit to the location," said Head of BPBD Agam Rahmat Lasmono quoting Antara.

He said the six jorongs in Nagari or East Malalak Village, Malalak District were isolated because the connecting roads for the six jorongs were completely cut off due to the piles and landslides.

For this reason, he said, the distribution of aid and evacuation of victims used helicopters so that assistance arrived at the location.

"We have provided landing locations for helicopters and it is planned that the distribution of aid by air will be carried out on Saturday (29/11)," he said.

Apart from Malalak District, he said, other sub-districts were also isolated due to the piled road and many landslide points, so four-wheeled vehicles could not pass.

The roads, such as the provincial road connecting Lubuk Basung to Bukittinggi, via the Landia River, were completely cut off due to many roads being covered by landslides and being buried in the Landia River.

The provincial road connects Lubuk Basung to Bukittinggi via Panta is covered by landslides and the road is flooded in Panta.

The provincial road connects Padang Koto Gadang, Palembayan District to Matur District, there are several points of collapsed roads and landslides are buried.

In addition, the national road connecting Bukittinggi to Medan, North Sumatra, the road is piled up in Padang Hijau and others.

With this condition, traffic flow is difficult from outside to enter Agam and can only be Lubuk Basung to Padang City.

"The road was cut off completely from Agam because many were buried and covered by landslides," he said.

He hopes that the rainfall will pass quite quickly so that there will be no disasters and 88 victims buried by landslides will be found immediately.

After that, a recovery was carried out from the impact of the disaster in the area.
