BYD Recalls This Model's Electric Sedan In China Due To Battery Problems

JAKARTA - BYD made a recall or recall of 88,981 Qin Plus DM-i sedan units in China. This was done after regulators found potential defects in battery packs that could cause power output to decrease under certain conditions.

The findings were conveyed by the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) after they evaluated the model battery production process. As reported by Carnewschina, Saturday, November 29.

In the regulatory report, inconsistency during the battery manufacturing process makes stored power not always issue optimally. In some situations, this disorder can make pure electric mode not work properly.

BYD said it would follow up on the problem gradually on all affected units. The models included in the recall list are 52,890 production units from September 26, 2021 to September 23, 2023, and 36,091 units produced between January 7, 2021 and September 30, 2022.

The company will send a software update via over the air (OTA). If the system detects anomalies in the battery, the automatic warning light turns on and the owner is directed to take the vehicle to the dealer for inspection and replacement of the battery pack at no cost.

Qin Plus DM-i itself is a popular plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sedan in the compact-medium segment that carries BYD's DM-i technology. This car is equipped with a 1.5 liter four-cylindrical gasoline engine combined with an electric motor. The combination produces about 170 power cellphones, depending on the version marketed.

This model comes with an LFP-type battery, with the largest capacity approaching 15.8 kWh in certain variants. In terms of dimensions, Qin Plus DM-i is about 4,780 mm long, 1,837 mm wide, and 1,515 mm high with a wheelbase of 2,718 mm.

Based on manufacturer's internal testing, fuel efficiency is one of the main advantages, designed to keep gasoline consumption low thanks to the role of electric motors in increasing the use of EV modes at low to medium speeds.

For consumers in China, Qin Plus DM-i is an option for those who want an efficient sedan with electrification technology, but still need the flexibility of a gasoline machine. With this recall, BYD affirms its commitment to maintain the quality of the vehicle and the safety of the battery system which is the backbone of their electrification product.
