Floods And Landslides In West Sumatra, The Padang 'Bukittinggi' Section Of Padang Panjang City Is Still Closed

The Ministry of Public Works (PU) continues to strive to open access roads damaged by landslides and floods in West Sumatra in recent days.

Of the number of national roads that were damaged, there is only one segment currently still under treatment, namely the Padang Bukittinggi Section, Padang Panjang City. The road section is said to be still closed due to two new landslide points.

The Minister of Public Works said that material cleaning was temporarily suspended due to high rainfall. However, he said, at that location two wheel loaders and one excavator had been alerted.

"The Ministry of Public Works also sends additional heavy equipment to lift sediment and speed up the opening of access," said Dody, quoted on Saturday, November 29.

Head of the Sumatra River Basin Center (BWS) V Naryo Widodo explained that the handling of river flows, erosion of cliffs and water runoffs continues. BWS Sumatra V has opened road access as well as cleaned up the Batang Anai irrigation primary channel.

According to him, his team has monitored vulnerable points along watersheds (DAS) and ensured that water flow returns to normal by deploying personnel resources, heavy equipment and flood materials.

"Furthermore, we carry out emergency security with the strengthening of gabions and geobags to prevent further landslides and clean the canals to ensure irrigation services continue to run adequately," he said.

In terms of the national road network, the Head of the West Sumatra National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN) Elsa Putra Friandi emphasized the full readiness of the field team.

"Every report of direct damage we follow up. We have handled all flood points, fallen trees and landslides, although some locations require extra effort due to high rainfall intensity," he explained.

Meanwhile, Head of the West Sumatra Building, Infrastructure and Area Planning Center (BPBPK) Maria Doini Isa said the Directorate General of Human Settlements had deployed personnel and equipment in disaster response operations.

"Untuk penyediaan air bersih, kami menurunkan Hidran Umum (HU) dan mobil tangki air ke posko bencana di kecamatan terdampak. Kami juga mengirim unit ke area terdampak, seperti Perumahan Lumin Park Kelurahan Lubuk Min turun dan permukiman terdampak di Kelurahan Koto Panjang, Kecamatan Koto Tangah. Assessmen sanitasi lingkungan juga dilakukan untuk menjaga keamanan warga," terangnya.

The Ministry of Public Works ensures that all handling steps are carried out in an integrated and sustainable manner, including increasing coordination with the Provincial Governments of West Sumatra, BPBD, BNPB and all relevant agencies to ensure emergency handling runs quickly, effectively and according to community needs.

Meanwhile, based on reports, as of November 27, 2025, 20 landslide points were recorded on 8 national roads, 14 flood points on 10 national roads and 4 fallen trees on 2 national roads.

This impact is widespread in 11 regencies/cities, namely Solok Regency; South Solok; Padang Pariaman; Agam; Pasaman; West Pasaman; Pesisir Selatan; and Solok City; Pariaman; Padang Panjang; and Padang.
