Toll Road Medan Kualanamu-Tebing Tinggi Collapses, Minister Of Public Works Asks BUJT To Do Quick Handling

JAKARTA - One of the points of the Medan 'Kualanamu' High Cliff (MKTT) Toll Road, precisely at KM 41+600 B, collapsed in the Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra.

The collapse of one of the toll road points was due to high intensity rain that flushed the Deli Serdang area, thereby increasing Sei Batu Gingging's water discharge and eroded the foundation of road piles.

Responding to the incident, the Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo asked the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT) or operator, in this case PT Jasamarga Kualanamu Tol, to temporarily close the affected route.

"As an emergency measure, the Ministry of Public Works has asked BUJT to immediately carry out quick handling, including temporary closure of affected lanes, location security, bridge structure checks, water flow arrangement and heavy equipment mobilization," said Dody, quoted on Saturday, November 29.

Dody said that his party continues to coordinate through the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT), PT Jasamarga Kualanamu Tol and Polri to ensure traffic flow remains under control during handling.

Based on coordination in the field, traffic engineering is needed which will take effect on Friday, November 28, 2025 until it is declared safe.

Traffic engineering is carried out by closing the Medan route at KM 43 B and diverting the outflow through the Paluh Kemiri and Kualanamu toll gates.

Then, the closure of the Tebing Tinggi route at KM 6 A and the diversion of the outflow through the Lubuk Pakam Toll Gate.

Security personnel have been deployed in the field including Team 203, MCSS 210, MCS 212, elements rescue and PJR 40 units.

"We urge the public to follow the directions of officers in the field and pay attention to alternative routes that are prepared," he added.

To note, the Medan 'Kualanamu' Tebing Tinggi Toll Road has a length of 61.70 kilometers is one of the important infrastructures that facilitates connectivity in North Sumatra.

The toll road has launched the flow of the movement of residents traveling to celebrate Christmas and New Year (Nataru), especially Medan residents and their surroundings who will travel to Kisaran, Tanjung Balai or vice versa.

The toll road also accelerates access to Pematang Siantar, Parapat and Toba, or vice versa. Repairs are prioritized so that the connectivity of the Medan Tebing Tinggi Toll Road can return to normal as soon as possible.
