Gus Yahya: PBNU Turbulence Does Not Disturb Community Service Obligations

Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board Yahya Cholil Staquf or who is familiarly called Gus Yahya emphasized that the internal turbulence or polemic of the PBNU leadership does not interfere with the organization's obligation to continue serving the community.

"Under any circumstances, this organization must continue to perform well and work well in carrying out its duties and obligations to be present in the community, continue to contribute to facing and overcoming the problems that arise in society. This must be maintained under any circumstances," said Gus Yahya at a press conference in Jakarta, Friday, November 28.

He realized that PBNU's internal state was currently shaky and experiencing many problems, but this should not hinder the course of organizational governance.

"Despite this turbulence, as an organization, PBNU must continue to perform. Fortunately, the entire governance system and organizational regulations provide complete tools to maintain the performance of the organization under any circumstances. So, the entire constitutional and regulatory system still guarantees structural integrity," said Gus Yahya.

Gus Yahya emphasized that the organizational structure must be maintained so that there is no chaos that can damage the integrity of PBNU. However, at the same time PBNU also provides space for management flexibility because the situation can run dynamically.

"However, to ensure structural integrity, there are things that cannot be decided other than through the NU Congress, so that for five years the management will maintain structural integrity, because if not, it will be very dangerous for the entire organizational constitution," said Gus Yahya.

Therefore, he continued, PBNU has also compiled a roadmap or for the next 25 years, which focuses on leading the revival of a new civilization based on akhlakul karimah (his noble character), science, technology, and social justice for the benefit of the people and the universe.

"That is the vision, while the foundations are the values of Aswaja as the foundation. Then the integration of morals, science, and technology, orientation to social justice and universal benefit, as well as an active role in building a peaceful world civilization," he said.

Gus Yahya reminded that the replacement of the General Chairperson of PBNU should only be done through the congress. In addition, internal problems in the organization can also be resolved together with discussions at the congress.

"There is no other way out than let's come back together to hold the congress. The schedule is not long, it's just a matter of completing a number of technical matters. If it's been a congress, then God willing, there will be no more disputes (disturbations), actually it's just that, so I also try to communicate with various parties, especially to Rais Aam," said Gus Yahya.
