Entering The Semeru Prone Zone, Stalls In Gladak Perak Dismantled

LUMAJANG - All stalls located around the Gladak Perak (Curah Kobokan) bridge in Lumajang Regency, East Java were demolished because they were in the disaster-prone zone of Mount Semeru.

"Some stalls in disaster-prone zones have been independently dismantled by their owners. This shows the public's high awareness of the safety of themselves and the surrounding environment," said Head of BPBD Lumajang Isnugroho in his statement, Friday, November 28.

According to him, the residents' awareness is a crucial part of the disaster mitigation strategy, because by dismantling the buildings in the vulnerable zone themselves, it not only protects yourself, but also facilitates evacuation routes and strengthens environmental security.

The activity took place with assistance from BBJN for East Java and Perhutani Provinces, as part of an integrated effort to control street vendors and buildings in disaster-prone zones.

"The approach ensures that every mitigation step is carried out safely, measurably, and oriented towards public safety," he said.

He explained that the proactive move for residents to accelerate disaster risk reduction, as well as support local governments in ensuring vulnerable areas remain safe and ready to face the potential eruption of Mount Semeru and other disasters.

"Active participation of the community is the main pillar in maintaining mutual safety. Such an initiative must be appreciated for saving lives and reducing losses when a disaster occurs," he said.

He explained that the demolition process would continue while still implementing official assistance from related parties so that security and effectiveness of mitigation would be maintained.

Meanwhile, Lumajang Regional Secretary Agus Triyono said the relocation of residents affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru was focused on those who lost their homes, with priority on safe and habitable locations.

"The status of the emergency response can be extended as needed, while ensuring the fulfillment of logistics and basic needs of affected residents," he said.

He explained that every emergency response step was directed to ensure the safety of residents and optimal fulfillment of basic needs.

In addition, local governments are preparing plans for rehabilitation and reconstruction after the emergency response period.

"The plan will be submitted to the central government to ensure a comprehensive recovery, covering the social, economic and environmental sectors," he said.
