PLN EPI Integrates Coal Logistics, Gas And Bioenergy For Power Plants

JAKARTA - PLN Energi Primary Indonesia (PLN EPI) strengthens the efficiency of the national energy supply chain through the integration of coal, gas, and bioenergy logistics to support the growth of national electricity demand which is estimated to reach 5.3 percent per year until 2034.

PLN EPI President Director Rakhmad Dewanto said this strategic step was an important foundation in ensuring the supply of more reliable and efficient primary energy while accelerating the energy transition.

Rakhmad explained that the increase in electricity demand was driven by the rapid growth of data centers, downstreaming, electric vehicles, and household electrification.

With a growth of 5.3 percent per year, energy demand continues to increase. This year we manage nearly 100 million tons of coal, about 1.4 billion cubic feet of gas per day including 90 LNG cargoes, as well as 4 million kiloliters of fuel and 2.6 million tons of biomass," said Rakhmad, Friday, November 28.

He added that energy logistics efficiency will be the key in maintaining the reliability of supply through the construction of liquid gas/natural gas midstream infrastructure or Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and bioenergy/biomassa.

Currently, we have succeeded in building a mini regas LNG in Tarakan and are building an LNG regasification network in Nias, Sulawesi Maluku, Nusa Tenggara, and North Papua with a milestone and run or hub and speech scheme. This system will create a national gas pipeline virtual that opens up opportunities for smelters, petrochemicals, and industrial areas outside Java as well as the commercial sector," he explained.

In addition to gas, PLN EPI also strengthens the bioenergy ecosystem through the development of a biomass marketplace application that connects suppliers, aggregators, owners of production facilities and power plants. The potential for national bioenergy reaches 80-130 million tons per year.

PLN Group's bioenergy needs are around 10 million tons. This digital platform is designed to facilitate the involvement of bioenergy suppliers including local farmer groups and small businesses to improve logistics efficiency, and ensure supply quality," he added.

Rakhmad menambahkan bahwa percepatan efisiensi logistik energi perlu terus ditingkatkan.

“Semakin cepat kita mengintegrasikan teknologi, kolaborasi, dan standar logistik modern, semakin besar dampaknya bagi keandalan sistem pasokan energi dan pertumbuhan ekonomi nasional," tandas Rakhmad.

Rakhmad added that the acceleration of energy logistics efficiency needs to be improved continuously.

"The sooner we integrate technology, collaboration, and modern logistics standards, the greater the impact on the reliability of the national energy supply system and economic growth," said Rakhmad.
