Number Of HIV Cases In Malang City Increases, 300 New Findings Throughout The Year

Malang City Health Office, East Java, reported a spike in the findings of HIV/AIDS cases throughout 2025. A total of about 300 new cases were found, the majority of whom came from the productive age group.

The head of the Malang City Health Office, Husnul Muarif, explained that this figure is part of around 6,000 people who have undergone HIV treatment since the first service was opened in various health facilities.

The findings of the new 2025 cases are around 300 cases. All those that have been handled, ranging from hospitals, health centers, to other health services, almost 6,000 people," said Husnul, Thursday, November 27.

According to Husnul, lifestyle changes are one of the factors that affect the current pattern of transmission. Men's groups who have sex with men (NGOs) are listed as the most contributors to cases. Meanwhile, the transmission from mother to child is relatively small.

Of the total recorded HIV survivors, around 70 percent came from outside the region, including students who came to Malang to take education. The rest, 30% are natives of Malang City. There are various patients who come, many students with different educational backgrounds," he added.

To reduce the number of transmissions, the Malang City Government has expanded its Vorantary Counseling and testing (VCT) services in all health centers and hospitals. This service provides counseling before HIV examination is carried out.

The Health Office also operates Mobile VCT which moves to various locations so that services are more equitable and easy to reach.

"With this service, we hope that survivors can be served well. This HIV treatment lasts a lifetime, it is important for survivors to take care of themselves so as not to infect others," concluded Husnul.
