PBSI Hopes To Fulfill The Target Of Two Gold Medals At The 2025 SEA Games

JAKARTA The Central Board of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI) hopes to meet the target of getting two gold medals from the 2025 SEA Games which will take place next month in Thailand.

Badminton is one of Indonesia's mainstay sports (sports) in the biennial sporting event. Overall, this sport will compete for seven gold medals in the White Elephant Country later.

PBSI General Secretary Ricky Subagja hopes that the sectors that have been the mainstay can perform optimally and meet the targets of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora).

"We hope that [gold medial] in the double sectors, as well as in this team as well as potential. Hopefully, the target from the Menpora, two [gold medial] can be achieved," said Ricky.

PBSI has previously released a list of squads for the 2025 SEA Games, consisting of ten women's players and ten men's players. However, there is still a possibility of changes due to the target of two gold medals.

When releasing the list of players who wanted to be sent to the biennial event, PBSI announced that only one gold medal was targeted. On average, the squad on the list is a young player at the National Training Center.

However, the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Erick Thohir then asked PBSI to send the best squad in order to get more than one gold because competitors from other countries also deployed their best squad.

Ricky ensured that the preparation of the badminton team continued to run intensely and followed the government's direction to field the best squad. It's just that the finalization of the name has not been announced yet.

"Yesterday there was a change in name, but it has not been decided from there. The final name is not yet there, we are still waiting," said Ricky.

Indonesia previously emerged as the overall champion of badminton in the 2023 SEA Games which took place in Cambodia. At that time, four gold medals were brought home individual numbers and one was from the men's team.
