Highlighting The Ternate Kedaton, The Government Prepares The Revitalization Of The Archipelago Palace

TERNATE - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon emphasized the government's grand plan to advance palaces and sultanates in Indonesia while reviewing the Sultanate of Ternate, Thursday, November 27, 2025. In front of Sultan Ternate and traditional stakeholders, Fadli called Ternate as one of the centers of Indonesian civilization that must receive priority for revitalization.

The Minister of Culture was greeted by His Excellency Sultan Ternate, the Bobatos, traditional stakeholders, and community leaders through the traditional procession of Joko Hale 'ritually stepped on the ground' for guests of honor who marked the acceptance of the indigenous people Moloku Kie Raha. The procession was led by Jo Huku and accompanied by a typical Ternate dance.

Fadli said that Indonesia's cultural wealth is not just diversity, but 'mega-diversity' that extends from Sabang to Merauke, including the legacy of the Sultanate of Ternate, Tidore, Jailolo, and Bacan. He emphasized the importance of collaboration in protecting, developing, utilizing, and fostering culture so that it remains alive and becomes a unifying force for the nation. Tultaya must be an unifying force that strengthens national identity," he said.

The Minister of Culture emphasized that culture must function as an engine of growth for economic development through soft power and cultural diplomacy. He revealed that the Ministry of Culture has formed a special Directorate General for diplomacy, promotion, and cultural cooperation.

According to him, the government is preparing data collection, rehabilitation, and the development of palaces and sultanates throughout Indonesia. The Sultanate of Ternate is considered to have great potential to become a national and international cultural destination. He encourages cultural activation through festivals, art performances, and programs with the Cultural Preservation Center.

After welcoming him, Fadli visited the Sultan Iskandar Muhammad Djabir Sjah Museum. He assessed the need to improve governance and show off so that the museum becomes a modern, educational, and strong cultural storefront in conveying historical narratives. The Minister of Culture also emphasized the importance of building a cultural ecosystem that is able to bring economic benefits to society.

Fadli closed the visit by inviting the Sultanate of Ternate to be more active in promoting typical traditions, arts and culinary arts. "We always open up a space for cooperation to support cultural promotion," he said.
