Rearview Camera Fails to Display, Hyundai Recalls 143,000 2024–2025 Santa Fe Vehicles

JAKARTA - Hyundai is recalling more than 143,000 of its popular Santa Fe models in the United States due to a problem with the rearview camera.

According to a report from Carscoops, quoted Thursday, November 27, this issue affects the 2024 and 2025 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid models.

According to documents filed with safety regulators, the problem occurs when the driver selects reverse, and the camera fails to provide a clear image or fails to provide any image.

Hyundai traced the problem to an improperly assembled wiring harness, the fault of an Alabama-based supplier, rather than the automaker itself.

"A careless assembly process can cause increased stress and wear on the wiring harness, resulting in poor terminal contact when connected to the camera," the NHTSA wrote.

In response, Hyundai has begun working on a fix that involves replacing the affected wiring harness with a new, more flexible one, which has been installed on new Santa Fe models.

In addition, owners will receive a letter with instructions on how to obtain a free repair at a dealership. Meanwhile, drivers in Santa Fe may want to rely on the old method known as looking in the mirror and turning their heads.
