No More Screens Spinning In BYD Cars
JAKARTA BYD memutuskan untuk menghentikan salah satu fitur khas pada lini mobilnya, yaitu layar latik yang bisa berputar 90 derajat dan dapat digunakan dalam orientasi vertical maupun horizontal.
This change is part of the interior design update strategy and infotainment system on its latest models. The feature, which has been the hallmark of BYD cars cabins, is no longer maintained because it is considered less relevant to the current needs of users.
Over the past few years, the touch screen has rotated into one of the main differentiators of BYD electric vehicles. This technology allows the screen to change orientation from horizontal to vertical with just one touch of the button.
Visually, the feature gives a futuristic and unique impression, as well as being its own attraction in the midst of competition in the global automotive industry. BYD vice president Stella Li said that although many users like rotating screen designs, the level of utilization in everyday use is very low.
The company's internal data shows that most drivers rarely change screen orientation after the feature was used for the first time. This step is also related to improving vehicle system compatibility with third-party applications such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
We found that most users prefer a stable screen display and rarely take advantage of the play function. Therefore, we chose to focus on a more consistent user experience," MAYD Vice President Stella Li told Autocar, Thursday, November 27.

The BYD Atto 2 model is the first vehicle to appear without a rotating screen feature. In this model, the infotainment screen is permanently installed in a horizontal position. In the future, a similar approach will be applied in stages to other BYD product lines, along with the design refresh and software system updates.
"Atto 2 will be the first model equipped with Google and Apple CarPlay. And if they want to provide the best experience, then the screen will limit their app. Second, we get input from the market. People like screen play, but the use is very small," added Li.
Fixed screen orientation in a horizontal position is considered more ideal to ensure stable integration, clearer navigation display, and a more comfortable entertainment experience for drivers and passengers.
In addition to technical reasons, BYD also considers that current global design trends lead to simplicity and practicality. Many automotive manufacturers are starting to abandon experimental features and switch to more stable and easy-to-use solutions in the long term.
The removal of a rotating touch screen marks a change in the direction of BYD's design philosophy. The company now emphasizes the function, comfort, and reliability of the system rather than offering unique visual features.
