KPK Finds Alleged Disappearance Of Evidence Of Hajj Quota Corruption Case At Maktour Office

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has obtained evidence of efforts to eliminate evidence of alleged corruption in the distribution of quotas and the implementation of the 2023-2024 Hajj pilgrimage at the Ministry of Religion by the Hajj and Umrah travel agency, Maktour Group.

KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo said investigators obtained the findings while searching the Maktour office in Jakarta on Thursday, August 14. Investigators at that time found an attempt to destroy documents.

"What we received was information that investigators found the alleged disappearance of evidence found at the MT office located in the Jakarta area," Budi told reporters, Thursday, November 26.

Even so, Budi admitted that he could not specify what findings the investigators had obtained at that time. Meanwhile, based on the information obtained, the disappearance of evidence was carried out by burning the Hajj quota manifest document received by Maktour Travel by one of the staff.

Instead of justifying the information, Budi only said that conditions on the ground would be analyzed and investigated.

"Of course investigators will analyze whether the disappearance or the attempt to eliminate evidence is included in the obstruction element of the investigation or not," he said.

The anti-corruption commission has also prevented Maktour Group owners, Fuad Hasan Masyhur, from leaving the country in addition to conducting searches. He has also been questioned by investigators some time ago.

Investigators have also investigated a number of Maktour employees. Then, the KPK has confiscated a sum of money whose value is said to have reached billions of rupiah.

"Currently, investigators are still focusing on the subject matter of the case, yes, related to the alleged financial work of the country, the alleged article 2 article 3 in the sale and purchase of the city of Hajj," said Budi.

Starting from the discretion, why is this discretion done, then the distribution, then to the sale and purchase of this Hajj city by travel agencies or special Hajj organizers or PIHK. That's what is still focused on tracing because this is related to the calculation of state financial losses.

Previously reported, the KPK is investigating allegations of corruption related to quotas and the implementation of Hajj in 2023-2024 at the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag). No suspects have been named for using a general investigation warrant (sprindik).

The general Sprindik uses Article 2 Paragraph 1 and/or Article 3 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2021 in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code. This means that there are state losses that occur due to this corrupt practice.

State losses in the corruption case of quota and Hajj for the period 2023-2024 are said to have reached more than IDR 1 trillion. This number is still increasing because it is only the initial calculation of the KPK which continues to coordinate with the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK).

During the investigation process, a number of parties have been questioned, including Yaqut Cholil Qoumas. Investigators have also searched his house and found documents and electronic evidence that are suspected to be related.

Then, checks were also carried out on hundreds of travel agents or travel agents who organize special Hajj (PIHK) and confiscated money from them. However, the anti-corruption commission has not detailed the amount because the calculation is still being carried out by investigators.
