Yahya Cholil Staquf Asks For PBNU Polemics To Be Completed At The Congress

Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board Yahya Cholil Staquf alias Gus Yahya asked for an internal polemic in the PBNU management which led to his dismissal as general chairman to be resolved together at the NU Congress.

"Let's solve it more respectfully. Whatever the problem is, if something is still unresolved, let's solve it through the congress, so that organizational integrity is maintained, organizational integrity is not tarnished," he said in Jakarta, Wednesday as reported by Antara.

Gus Yahya realized that during his tenure he certainly did not escape mistakes as happened in other organizations.

"Of course in leading me it cannot be separated from mistakes, for that, I appeal to all ranks of PBNU, including asking Rais Aam to think more about this matter, let's maintain the integrity of this NU, we maintain organizational integrity. I know that as chairman, obviously I also made mistakes because no one is perfect," he explained.

He also considered that there were efforts to divide NU through a letter circulating and declared his dismissal as chairman.

"I think it should be suspected like that, someone wants this NU to break, of course it must be questioned, for what purpose? If in substance or structure it is actually something that is completely unnecessary, why suddenly like this? And I think people can see it, there is no rain, no wind, suddenly something like this is done," he said.

Yahya Cholil Staquf is no longer the General Chair of PBNU, as stated in Circular Number 4785/PB.02/AI.10.01/99/11/2025 which circulated on Wednesday.

The Circular was signed by Deputy Rais Aam PBNU Afifuddin Muhajir and Khatib PBNU Ahmad Tajul Mafakir. In the letter, it was stated that Gus Yahya was no longer the General Chair, starting from November 26, 2025.

On the basis of this decision, Yahya Cholil Staquf no longer has the authority and right to use the attributes, facilities and/or things attached to the position of Chairman of PBNU.

The letter also states that to fulfill the provisions and mechanisms stipulated in Article 7 Paragraph (4) of the Nahdlatul Ulama Association Regulation Number 10 of 2025 concerning Meetings of Article 8 letters a and b of the Nahdlatul Ulama Association Regulation Number 13 of 2025 concerning Dismissal of Functionaries, Inter-Time Change and Delegation of Position Functions, as well as Regulation of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board Number: 01/X/2023 concerning Guidelines for Dismissal of Management, Substitution of Inter-Time Management, and Delegation of Position Functions at the Nahdlatul Ulama Association, then PBNU will soon hold a Plenary Meeting.

Furthermore, during the vacancy of the general chairman, the PBNU leadership is entirely in the hands of Rais Aam as the supreme leader of Nahdlatul Ulama.
