Hundreds Of Vehicles Trapped In Floods, National Road Access In West Pasaman Breaks Total

SIMPANG EMAT - Hundreds of vehicles were trapped because the flood covered the national road in Aia Gadang, Pasaman District, West Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra, from Wednesday 26 to Thursday 27 November.

"The traffic flow was completely cut off because the water inundated the road with a height of more than one meter. As of 08.00 WIB this morning, the vehicle had been stuck for 12 hours," said Head of Ops for the West Pasaman Police, Kompol Muzhendra, quoted by Antara, Thursday morning.

According to him, due to forgetting the Batang Pasaman River, the national road that connects the southern part of West Pasaman cannot be passed by vehicles.

The length of the queue for vehicles to six sub-districts in West Pasaman and to North Sumatra is estimated to reach two kilometers since Wednesday, November 26 night.

The road is the only road to six sub-districts in West Pasaman.

His party has deployed dozens of personnel to regulate traffic in flood locations. In addition, it also helps residents affected by the flood.

"We urge motorists to remain patient and not rush to cross the flood because it is very dangerous for their safety," he said.

One of the drivers, Dodi (40), said he had been trapped for about 10 hours since the Batang Pasaman River overflowed.

"I was going to Simpang Empat from Batahan Land. However, until this morning the vehicle could not pass through the swift overflow of water," he said.

In addition to covering the road, dozens of houses in the vicinity were also flooded. Currently, the owner has left the house around it because it is looking for a safe place.

From BPBD data to Wednesday (26/11) afternoon, of the 11 existing sub-districts, 10 of them were affected by floods and landslides.

The Pasaman Regency Government together with other relevant agencies continue to provide assistance and assistance to residents affected by floods and landslides.

Currently, the local government has set a disaster emergency response status for the next week.
