This Time, PSV Embarrassed Liverpool Who Are Getting Worse At Anfield
JAKARTA - Liverpool are getting worse not only in the English Premier League but also in the Champions League. This time, it was PSV Eindhoven's turn to humiliate Liverpool by defeating him 4-1 in the match at Anfield Stadium, Thursday, November 27, 2025 in the morning WIB.
Manager Arne Slot may only be lucky to bring Liverpool to become the Premier League champion in his debut to replace Juergen Klopp. The reason is, Slot only continues the team that has been formed in the Klopp leadership era.
When Slot had the opportunity to renew the squad by bringing in many players, including Alexander Isak who broke the Premier League transfer record, Liverpool fell.
It didn't take long for the Slot project to defend the league title to collapse. They lost six of the seven matches in various competitions.
Liverpool had time to rise when they beat Aston Villa 2-0 in the domestic competition and then beat Real Madrid 1-0 in the Champions League. However, Virgil van Dijk et al then fell again after being slaughtered by Manchester City 3-0.
It didn't stop there, when they returned to play at Anfield by hosting Nottingham Forest, the Reds were optimistic that they would rise. But again, they were beaten by Forest with the same score of three goals.
At its peak when he returned to play in front of his own supporters for the second time in a row in the Champions League, Liverpool lost again.
This is the first defeat at home during the last five years competing in European competition. Ironically, the PSV that beat the Slot squad was the bottom team.
This has also been a bad record for Liverpool since the 1953/1954 season which made Slot's position uncomfortable. Moreover, the angry fans made fun of the former Feyennoord coach before leaving the seat. Yes, the fans left when they were 3-1 for PSV. And ironically, Liverpool players are not motivated to catch up but instead conceded again.
An embarrassing result because PSV seemed to teach Liverpool players how to play football and defend well. How not, Liverpool's goal has conceded 10 times in just the last three games in various competitions.
The defeat against PSV made Liverpool stuck in 13th place with nine points. If you don't improve your ranking and enter the top eight, Liverpool will have to play a playoffs to get tickets to the last 16.
Likewise PSV managed to move up the rankings. If previously the Dutch Eredivisie club struggled at the bottom, now Peter Bosz's team managed to move up to 15th place with point eight. They managed to enter the playoff zone and opened up opportunities to fight for tickets to the knockout round.
In that match, Slot re-backed Isak, who never showed his sharpness. But by relying on Hugo Ekitike who was supported by Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo in the front line failed to show his sharpness.
Even Liverpool conceded when the game had only been running for six minutes. Because Van Dijk made a mistake when he headed the ball. His hands went up and touched the ball so that it was declared handball.
Although he stated that he was violated when he blocked the dead ball, the referee remained in his decision. Veteran striker Ivan Perisic successfully completed the penalty which brought PSV 1-0 up.
Liverpool actually managed to get up and it didn't take long to equalize. In the 16th minute, midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai successfully maximized the rebound ball to change the score to 1-1.
The goal started with Gakpo's run and fired hard into the net. Goalkeeper Matej Kovar did manage to block it but failed to secure the ball. As a result, the rebound ball that Szoboszlai immediately grabbed.
After that goal, the two teams took turns applying pressure. Van Dijk almost broke into PSV's goal when he met Salah's corner. Unfortunately, his header still hit the post.
Furthermore, Ekitike's shot from close range could be brilliantly thwarted by Kovar. No goals were created so that the draw lasted until the end of the first half.
Entering the second half, Liverpool took the initiative to attack. Only their attack always ran aground in the PSV defense. On the other hand, the Pool's defense is more easily penetrated.
As a result, goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili had to pick up the ball from his goal for the second time after Guus Til scored in 56 minutes. This goal came when midfielder Mauro Junior showed action past defender Milos Kerkez before releasing a pass to Tim. He also fired a hard kick that beat Mamardashvili.
Goals that changed the score to 2-1 seemed to kill Liverpool. The home players looked frustrated because of the difficulty of catching up.
Moreover, Liverpool conceded again because of Ibrahima Konate's blunder whose bait was successfully grabbed by Ricardo Pepi who then gave the ball to Couhaib Driouech.
Without difficulty he beat Mamardashvili who increased PSV's lead to 3-1 in the 73rd minute.
Even though they were left behind, Liverpool still had difficulty scoring goals. On the other hand, PSV enjoyed the match even more. Even Driouech managed to score a brace in injury time which changed the score to 4-1. PSV closed the match with that score.
