Pay Good Attention, These Are Two High Cholesterol Signs That Can Appear On The Face
High cholesterol is often referred to as 'silent killer', because it usually doesn't cause clear symptoms, which eventually triggers serious complications. When high cholesterol, fat can accumulate in the blood and inhibit blood flow.
This condition then increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes. As a result of not causing symptoms, many people who just found out they have high cholesterol while undergoing blood tests or when complications appear.
"Therefore, it is actually very important to know some changes in the body that can be a sign of high cholesterol," said the British Heart Foundation (BHF) quoted from the UK Mirror, on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
"It's often a hidden risk factor, which means it can be a sign we're aware of until late. That's why it's important to check cholesterol levels," BHF said.
In some cases, especially if high cholesterol is due to congenital factors such as family hypercolesterlemia, distinctive signs can appear in the face area as below.
Xanthelasma
Xanthelastama is a condition of a yellow bulge that appears on the eyelids, usually near the base of the nose. This can be formed due to a pile of cholesterol under the skin.
About 50 percent of patients with xanthelasma are known to have high cholesterol levels. However, this condition can also indicate several other health problems, such as diabetes and thyroid disorders.
Arkus Kornea
Arkus korena is characterized by a gray or white neighborhood on the outer edge of the corona. Over time, this arch can form an intact ring that surrounds the slices.
Busur may be a complete ring around the slices. Iris is a colorful part of the eye,' said cardiologist Francisco Lopez-Jimenez.
This condition does not affect vision, and does not require special medical treatment. However, if this sign appears, it is still recommended to have a doctor checked.
