Expressing The Similarities Of Jakarta And Berlin, Pramono: Mobility To Gaps
JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung was the mainnote speaker at the opening of the 2025 AsiaBerlin Summit at Rotes Rathaus, Berlin, Germany.
In the forum that brings together city leaders, investors, policy makers, and the technology ecosystem from Asia and Europe, Pramono explained the direction of Jakarta's transformation in the next few years. According to Pramono, there needs to be collaboration between cities in facing the challenges of big cities.
"Our goal is to bring Jakarta into the ranks of the 50 leading global cities by 2030. Transformation cannot be done alone. We need global partnerships, and Berlin is a strategic partner on this journey," Pramono said in front of the delegates, quoted Tuesday, November 25.
Pramono alluded to the similarity of problems faced by Jakarta and Berlin, ranging from mobility issues or the movement of people and vehicles, to the gap between rich and poor. Thus, Pramono assessed that intercity cooperation could provide a more effective solution.
"Jakarta and Berlin share the same challenges, mobility, climate change, population growth, and inequality. Instead of running alone, we can be an example of world cities being able to work together to find solutions, not just competition. I invite Berlin to be present in Jakarta and build a common future," he said.
In his presentation, Pramono mentioned the three focuses of the update that Jakarta is currently working on: improving the quality of public transportation, strengthening energy transition policies, and expanding green open spaces.
Pramono appointed a number of ongoing programs, ranging from plans to expand the Transjabodetabek network to seven buffer areas, increasing the number of electric buses from 420 units to 10,047 units by 2030, to building 300 new green open spaces.
"We are building a greener, cleaner, and more humane city. Not only modern infrastructure, but also sustainable," he said.
AsiaBerlin Summit 2025 is an annual forum that brings together city leaders, investors, policymakers, and the technology ecosystem from Europe and Asia to strengthen global innovation collaboration. Pramono's presence also marks important diplomatic momentum in the 31th anniversary of the Sister City Jakarta 'Berlin partnership which has been built since 1994.
