Travel Insurance Demand Increases Along With Increased Travel Mobility

JAKARTA - The interest of the Indonesian people to travel continues to show an upward trend from year to year.

Based on BPS data in July 2025, it was noted that the number of domestic tourist trips increased by 29.72 percent compared to the same period in 2024.

This increase in mobility also encourages demand for travel insurance as a form of protection from various risks while traveling, so that trips can take place safely and comfortably.

Marketing Director of Great Eastern General Indonesia (GIGI) Linggawati Tok said traveling has now become a lifestyle, so the need for protection during the trip also increases.

"Compensive travel insurance will provide peace on the way, either traveling alone or with family for holidays, or for business purposes," he said in his statement, Tuesday, November 25.

Meanwhile, based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of overseas travel of Indonesian citizens (WNI) reached 8.5 million trips in 2024, with favorite destinations Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea.

Linggawati said there is great potential in the travel insurance market and alan will increase to 10 to 11 million trips this year.

To answer this need, he conveyed that GEGI presented Travel Insurance as a travel protection solution that was increasingly needed.

Linggawati added, through the latest collaboration with OCBC, the Travel Insurance GEGI can now be purchased directly through the OCBC Mobile application, providing easier and faster access for OCBC customers.

"The presence of Travel Insurance GEGI is a door to expand service reach and provide convenience for customers to meet travel protection needs through only one application," he explained.

Meanwhile, GEGI emphasized that the GEGI travel insurance premium target in 2025 has exceeded the 2025 budget.

He conveyed that the year-end momentum, the Christmas and New Year holiday periods, was used by companies to expand market penetration, namely by holding active promotions through social media and campaigning with business partners to capture a surge in demand by the end of the year.

Similarly, the Wealth Management & Funding Product Head of OCBC Bank Vonny Wibowo stated that this collaboration was born from a joint commitment to provide travel protection solutions that are relevant to the current needs of customers.

He conveyed that his party understands that every customer needs protection for themselves and their families, both on domestic and international trips.

"Therefore, we present this collaboration between OCBC and GEGI so that Customers can obtain travel protection in a easier, faster, and practical way through OCBC Mobile. We hope that the presence of this Travel Insurance can provide a sense of security and comfort for customers in planning travel, as well as have a positive impact on improving their quality of life," he said.

The GEGI Insurance travel also offers competitive premiums for OCBC customers, with prices ranging from IDR 54,000 for travel to ASEAN countries, IDR 200,000 for protection worldwide.
