Now Bestie With Xi Jinping, Trump Will Visit China Next Year
JAKARTA US President Donald Trump received an invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit Beijing in April 2026. Trump said he would respond by inviting Xi for state visits to the US later next year.
Trump made the remarks after speaking with Xi by telephone nearly a month after the two leaders met face-to-face in South Korea. Both
discuss various issues including Ukraine, fentanyl, and the purchase of American soybeans.
"Our relationship with China is very strong!" Trump wrote in an upload on Truth Social reported by the Associated Press, Tuesday, November 25.
Beijing, which first announced the phone call, said nothing about the state visit but noted the two leaders discussed trade, Taiwan and Ukraine.
Xi told Trump Taiwan's return to mainland China was an "integral part of the postwar international order," the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
This is a crucial issue for Beijing that Trump did not mention in his post.
Xi Jinping's conversation with Trump comes amid China-Japan relations following Japan's recent statement by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

He said the Japanese military, a major US ally, could be involved if China took action against Taiwan, a self-governmental island that Beijing says should be under its control.
"My best guess is China is concerned about escalation (voltage) with Japan. References to Taiwan and post-World War II order directly refer to disputes with Japan over Taiwan," said Sun Yun, director of China's program at Washington-based think tank Stimson Center.
"They also discussed Ukraine. It was an issue that attracted China's attention because of the new peace negotiations," he said.
