KLH Checks Regional Head Of Greater Bandung Regarding Citarum River Pollution
The Ministry of Environment (KLH) has summoned and examined the regional head of the Mayor/Regent of Greater Bandung, West Java, regarding the alleged pollution of the Citarum River.
"So we will not play games. So yesterday the Mayor of Bandung Farhan was summoned, he has been questioned," said Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, November 25.
He said the summons and examination was carried out by the Directorate General of Law Enforcement (Gakkum) of the Environment on regional heads in Greater Bandung.
This step was carried out as an effort to ask for information regarding the problem of river pollution which was polluted by 4,000 tons of waste every day.
"Today, those handled at the Sarimurti TPA are less than 1,000 tons per day, so there are 4,000 tons per day that fall on the Citarum River," he said.
Minister LH stated that the LH Gakkum team is currently still carrying out the process of summoning several regional heads such as the Mayor/Regent of Greater Bandung.
"So we are taking steps to guide and enforce the law if necessary," he said.
In addition, Hanif also urged the government in Greater Bandung to prepare land in preparation for the construction of a waste management unit into electrical energy.
Moreover, this private to energy is mandated by Presidential Regulation Number 109 of 2025 concerning the Handling of Urban Waste Through Waste Processing Into Renewable Energy Based on Environmentally Friendly Technology.
According to him, the user of thewaste to energy as waste management technology is an effective innovation to unravel the problem of waste in the area. Given, the volume of waste in Greater Bandung that goes to the Sarimukti Regional TPA reaches 5,000 tons every day.
"So I really hope that the governments of West Java and Greater Bandung will immediately take important initiatives because this is at stake for many people," he said.
