Indra Sjafri's Reaction Regarding The Target For The Indonesian U-23 National Team Silver Medal At The 2025 SEA Games
JAKARTA - The U-23 Indonesian national team coach, Indra Sjafri, responded to the silver medal target when his team appeared at the 2025 SEA Games. According to him, the target was in accordance with the agreement.
The minimum target of the silver medal was installed by the Government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora). The target is somewhat surprising, considering that the Garuda Muda squad has the status of defending champion in this multi-branch throughout ASEAN.
Nevertheless, Indra Sjafri admitted that this was normal considering that the team's preparation period was quite short.
The coach from West Sumatra revealed that he only had about two months to prepare the team before the start of the 2025 SEA Games on December 5.

"This (the silver medal target) is according to the time available in preparing the U-23 Indonesian national team for the 2025 SEA Games until the implementation on December 5," said Indra Sjafri in a statement quoted on Monday, November 24, 2025.
Regarding the minimum target of silver medals, Indra emphasized that he accepted the target which he considered in accordance with the discussion and mutual agreement between the review team, Kemenpora, PSSI, and the coaching team.
"We accept the targets charged by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. That is also what we agreed on from the Kemenpora review team with us when we explained the roadmap and the periodization of preparations for the U-23 Indonesian National Team at the SEA Games," he said.
With the status of defending champions, the U-23 Indonesian national team is in Group C with Myanmar, the Philippines, and Singapore.
In the group, Indra Sjafri admitted that Garuda Muda was a very seeded team despite the challenge that they had to play more than a team from Group A and B which only lived in three countries.
The 2025 SEA Games are scheduled to take place from 9 to 20 December 2025. However, the men's soccer sport will start early, namely on 3 to 18 December 2025.
