Padang Pariaman Floods, Thousands Of Houses Up To 183 Hectares Of Agricultural Land Submerged
JAKARTA - An area of 183 hectares of agricultural land in Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra was flooded from the overflowing river that was unable to contain rainfall in the last three days, as reported by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said heavy rains accompanied by strong winds two days ago caused a number of river flows to overflow and inundate 21 villages in the administrative area of eight sub-districts in Padang Pariaman.
BNPB confirmed that as a report was received from a team of officers in the field, the flood had receded on Sunday (23/11) night, but because the rainfall was still high, today the water rose again with an average water level of between 30-150 centimeters.
"138 hectares of agricultural land were affected, 26 hectares of gardens were submerged. The water that had receded on Sunday night rose again. The average water level was between 30-150 centimeters," Abdul said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, November 24.
He explained, starting from Lubuk Alung, Batang Anai, Sintuk Toboh Gadang sub-districts, Ulakan Tapakih, 2x11 Six Likung, Six Lingkung, Nan Sabarais, to District V Koto became the areas affected by the flood.
From this area, meanwhile, it was also reported that two of the 3,076 housing units were damaged by flooding, including connecting roads between villages, two bridges, one dam, two irrigation canals, and one elementary school facility.
"The damage also occurred on the front road of Padang Pariaman Hospital and the concrete congestion road of Pasa Limau," he added.

Nevertheless, Abdul ensured that as many as 9,228 flood victims were currently being assisted by joint officers.
BNPB reported that of the number of victims, there were 258 residents who fled to the prayer room and houses that were not affected in Galuang, Parik, and Palak Pisang Villages.
While the rest stay in their respective homes and remain in the assistance of a joint team of officers under the coordination of the Padang Pariaman Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
