Highlighting Student Violence In Purworejo, Minister Of PPPA Urges Children's Digital Education Strengthening
JAKARTA - Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifah Fauzi, expressed deep concern over the case of violence involving students at a junior high school in Purworejo, Central Java. The case, which was recorded viral on social media, according to Minister Arifah, highlighted the urgency of strengthening digital education for Indonesian children.
In a statement received in Jakarta, Monday, November 24, 2025, the Minister of PPPA highlighted the circulating footage and sparked public unrest. He emphasized that this incident was a reminder of the importance of preventing violence in the educational environment, both in the physical and digital spaces.
"This incident shows the importance of preventing violence in educational units, including through strengthening digital education so that children are able to interact safely and responsibly in physical and digital spaces," said Minister Arifah.
Speed Handling Of Victims And Reported Legal Kawalan
The Ministry of PPPA, he continued, has moved quickly to coordinate with the Regional Technical Implementation Unit for the Protection of Women and Children (UPTD PPA) Purworejo Regency. The goal is to ensure that the handling of cases runs according to procedures.
Currently, protection and recovery efforts for the victim's child have been provided, including clinical psychologist assistance and CT testing at the hospital.
"We ensure that the fulfillment of the needs of the victim's child is handled quickly and appropriately," said the Minister of PPPA.
Regarding the legal process, the Ministry of PPPA will continue to oversee this case with UPTD PPA Purworejo. Given that the reported person is still a child, the handling will be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Juvenile Criminal Justice System (SPPA) while still prioritizing the best interests of the child.
Furthermore, Minister Arifah highlighted the root of the problem that needs to be prevented, namely the lack of digital literacy which can trigger similar cases to repeat. He encourages digital education to be strengthened in schools and families.
"This education includes an understanding of healthy interactions in the digital space, the ability to manage emotions, and awareness about the consequences of spreading content that violates privacy or contains violence," he explained.
According to the Minister of PPPA, digital literacy is now crucial because children are active on the internet almost every day.
