Alert! The Potential Eruption Of Mount Sangeang Api Is Still Possible

MATARAM - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), appealed to residents to always be aware of Mount Sangeang Api, although seismic activity is now decreasing.

"We ask people on Sangeang Island and the surrounding coast to increase preparedness," said Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of BPBD Bima Nurul Huda, quoted by Antara, Monday, November 24.

Nurul said Mount Sangeang Api currently still holds Level II or Alert status by not doing activities within a dangerous radius of three kilometers from the main crater, and avoiding the southeast to the coastline sector of 6.5 kilometers.

Although the earthquake status has decreased, he said, this condition has not yet become the basis for the authorities to reduce the level of vigilance.

BPBD Bima continues to carry out direct monitoring with a joint team from the Sangeang Api (PGA) Observation Post and BPBD NTB.

"Local governments together with technical agencies continue to disseminate information about potential eruption hazards and early evacuation measures for residents who have the potential to be affected," said Nurul.

PGA Sangeang Api Post Officer Ari Yuda Eecky Ferlando confirmed the decline in seismic activity based on the results of monitoring of seismic instruments.

"There is indeed a decline in activity, but we are still on standby to monitor the development of the mountain and continue to warn the public," he said.

Ari revealed that the potential for eruptions can still occur at any time, so that people are advised not to move at dangerous radii according to the recommendations of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG).

Based on the latest update data on the Magma Indonesia website on November 22, 2025, Mount Sangengang Api recorded four gusts, six deep volcanic earthquakes, two distant tectonic earthquakes, and one continuous tremor earthquake.

Mount Sangeang Api is an active type A volcano located on Sangeang Island, a small island in the eastern part of Sumbawa Island, NTB. The 1,981-meter-high mountain above sea level (masl) is included in the Wera District, Bima Regency.
