Bullying Will Be Included In A Special Chapter In The National Education System Bill
JAKARTA Chairman of Commission X DPR RI, Hetifah Sjaifudian, revealed that his party has prepared a special chapter in the Draft Law (RUU) of the National Education System (Sisdiknas), which will discuss the issue of bullying or bullying that is now rife in schools.
"Commission X DPR RI views that protection for students and all stakeholders in education units must be a national priority. Therefore, we encourage concrete formulations in the form of strengthening regulations, including in the revision of the National Education System Law," he said in a written statement, Sunday, November 23.
According to him, strengthening regulations has become a national urgency following the rise of cases of violence against students.
Therefore, protection must cover all education stakeholders, including students, teachers, and the school.
"We will go into a special chapter regarding this and also increase school capacity, and provide a faster, more child-friendly and trusted reporting and handling system," he continued.
Hetifah stated that the policy was prepared to provide a clear legal basis for preventing and handling bullying in an educational environment, where the formulation of regulatory strengthening must include increasing school capacity as well as establishing a child-friendly reporting and handling system.

He emphasized that schools must have clear, measurable, and national Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in preventing and dealing with violence from an early age.
Commission X DPR RI has prepared synergy efforts with various parties, especially with Commission IX of the DPR RI to strengthen the mental health protection of students. This collaborative effort is important because the problem of bullying is not only related to physical violence, but also the risk of long-term mental disorders that require systemic intervention," explained Hetifah.
