Handling Online Shopping Fraud, DPR Encourages The Establishment Of A Digital Consumer Protection Task Force
JAKARTA - Member of Commission VI DPR RI, Rivqy Abdul Halim, encouraged the government to immediately form a Digital Consumer Protection Task Force, along with the rampant cases of online shopping transaction fraud.
"I encourage the government, namely the Ministry of Trade, OJK, PPATK, Komdigi and Telkom to immediately form a digital Consumer Protection Task Force," Rivqy told reporters, Saturday, November 22.
"This is necessary to minimize cases and losses from online shopping transaction fraud that continue to occur with increasingly sophisticated modes," he continued.
Rivqy assessed that the existence of the Digital Consumer Protection Task Force would allow for a faster and coordinated response amid the high number of online shopping fraud cases in certain periods.
One way, said Rivqy, is that the task force can create a joint channel or platform in which it informs online shopping transaction fraud data. Whether it is being handled, it is happening and the progress of its handling to the public.
"In the channel, educational materials for digital consumers can also be created to prevent the trap of online shopping transaction fraudsters," he explained.

In addition, Rivqy also asked marketplaces and e-commerce to tighten the seller's verification process to suppress fraudulent practices. The goal is that online shopping transaction fraud activities can be followed up quickly.
"It's like replacing consumer losses that become victims of fraud," he said.
The legislator from the East Java IV electoral district also emphasized the importance of the role of telecommunication SOEs in strengthening SIM card verification in collaboration with cellular operators.
"For example, the data used to register with certain operators can no longer be used to register with other operators when it is proven that they have committed online shopping transaction fraud," said Rivqy.
Rivqy added that the formation of the Task Force and various other security measures must be included in the revision process of Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection. He guaranteed that Commission VI and partners would draw up a revision of the Consumer Protection Law in as much detail as possible.
"And following the development of technology and information from existing digital transactions, the consumer pandemic is empowered and its rights have been marginalized or vulnerable in a transaction, especially in the digital realm," he concluded.
