Pelalawan Riau Police Have Determined The Midwife Of The Salah Sunat Malpractice Suspect

PekanBARU - The Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the Pelalawan Police, Riau Province, named a midwife with the initials EV as a suspect in the alleged malpractice case of a child's circumcision so that her genitals were cut off.

"The EV agency has been named a suspect in the alleged miscarriage case," said Head of the Pelalawan Police Satreskrim AKP I Gede Yoga Eka Pranata as reported by ANTARA, Friday, November 21.

Gede Yoga explained that the determination of the suspect was carried out after investigators confirmed that there was an element of negligence in the circumcision action carried out by EV in June 2025.

This was after examining a number of parties ranging from reporters, reported parties, medical personnel from the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI), the Health Service, the Head of the Puskesmas, to expert witnesses.

"After the case goes up to the investigation stage and through the title of the case, we officially determine the EV as a suspect," he said.

For his actions, EV is suspected of violating Article 360 of the Criminal Code regarding negligence that causes other people to get sick or injured, as well as criminal provisions in Law Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health.

Gede Yoga said his party had sent the first call to EV to be questioned as a suspect, but he was absent. Investigators will send a second call.

The victim in this case is a nine-year-old boy with the initials AS. He suffered serious injuries after his genitals were cut off while undergoing the circumcision process by the EV midwife.

The incident began when the US was circumcised at the EV practice site in Pulau Muda Village, Teluk Meranti District. At that time, the circumcision process was said to have gone smoothly, but with US genitals wrapped in bandages and allowed to go home with his parents.

However, a few days later the US complained of pain when urinating with bleeding. When his parents opened the bandages, they were surprised to find the child's genitals had been cut off.

This case was attempted for mediation, but the meeting between the victim's family and the EV midwife did not produce an agreement. As a result of slow initial handling, the victim's family had to bear the medical expenses themselves when taking the US to a hospital in Pekanbaru.

After the case emerged, the Health Office intervened to accompany the victim. Not satisfied with the handling and condition of the US who suffered a permanent injury, the family then chose to take legal action and reported the case to the Pelalawan Police.
